The Journey That Shaped Us
Founded in 1997, United Agency of Kentucky originally began as a network of independent agencies working together to serve communities across the region. Over time, this collaborative foundation evolved into the Morehead-based independent agency we are today. Our story has always centered on providing honest guidance, straightforward answers, and insurance solutions tailored to real people and real risks. Built on the belief that service starts with people, not transactions.
How UAofK Began
Neighbors, friends, and family asked for clearer answers and better options. We listened. From early days serving homeowners near Kenwood Towne Centre to helping first-time buyers close on homes in Sharonville and Montgomery, our mission has stayed the same: honest guidance, competitive choices, and follow-through when it matters most.
Meet Your Agent
John Ison
President / Agent
John Ison is the President of United Agency of Kentucky and brings more than 30 years of hands-on insurance experience to the families and businesses he serves across Eastern Kentucky. As an independent insurance agent, John’s focus has always been simple: help people get the right coverage in place the first time, without confusion or guesswork.
Before becoming an independent agent, John worked with three insurance companies in underwriting and marketing roles. That background gave him a deep understanding of how insurance companies evaluate risk, structure policies, and handle claims—knowledge he now uses to advocate for his clients and recommend coverage that actually works when it matters most.
John is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Insurance in 1993, along with a minor in Security Loss and Loss Prevention. His commitment to the profession and to Eastern Kentucky has been recognized throughout his career. In 2012, he was named Outstanding Eastern Kentucky University Insurance Alumnus and also served as a Kentucky Department of Insurance Ambassador.
He has been actively involved in industry leadership, serving on the Board of Directors for the Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky from 2008 to 2012. Earlier in his career, John received the Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky Outstanding Young Agent Award and served as Chairman of the Young Agents Committee.
Today, John continues to guide United Agency of Kentucky with the same values he’s built his career on—honest advice, practical solutions, and a commitment to serving his neighbors throughout Morehead and the surrounding Eastern Kentucky communities.
